Fixing a leaky kitchen sink

Since day 1 we’ve had a tiny drip from the kitchen sink. I didn’t notice it until we had standing water in the sink for some reason.

I had intended to get it looked at the next time we went by the dealer but we haven’t driven in that direction yet (several hours away). I noticed it started getting worse (presumably from the bumps).

Decided to try to fix it…

I think the leak was from too little putty and an over tightened back nut. In trying to fix it I just made it worse by further cracking the back nut.

It took me a while to find the right part - and I ended up buying a strainer assembly for $20 instead of the $5 piece I needed - but three stores later I was done looking.

I expect now that I know exactly the piece I could have found one on Amazon, but it’s fixed so I’m happy.

I’m the picture you can see the Zion’s drain and the cracked back but.  The new assembly came with a rubber washer, a paper friction nut, and a drain and strainer  I used the washers and backnut from the new kit but re-used the original drain.  Used some fresh plumbers putty and watched a couple videos on installing bar sinks
