USB and Power Outlets in a 2023 Roadtrek Zion

Promaster Power Ports

There is a USB C, USB A, and a cigarette lighter port in the dash and a cigarette lighter port in the rear seatbelt pillar on the passenger side.   These chassis ports are designed to be used when the engine is running - i.e. they are not connected to the solar or show power systems.

Coach Power Ports

In the coach side of the 2023 Roadtrek Zion there are 4 USB ports, 9 110V ports, and 6 cigarette lighter ports.

Power port locations

  1. There are 4 combination 110V, USB, and 12V cigarette ports
    • Above the folding counter extension.
    • In the back corner in the ceiling of the lounge area on the passenger side
    • In the back corner in the ceiling of the lounge area on the driver side
    • In the lounge area on the drivers side above the ottoman.
  2. There is a 110V outlet in the “B” pillar  this is on the passenger side, right behind the front seat, at the ground level. (Near the fire extinguisher )
  3. There are two 110V outlets (technically a single duplex outlet) in the counter below the cooktop
  4. There are two 110V outlets (technically a single duplex outlet) in a cupboard above the tv.
  5. There are two 12V cigarette lighter ports in the cupboard above the tv

110V ports

The 110V ports look like your household power outlet.   They have power when the inverter is on or you are connected to shore power.

Cigarette / 12V power ports

Not that there is a a lot of actual cigarette lighters in vehicles these days, but the name still sticks for these 12V power sockets.   These ports are powered whenever the batteries on on.   They do not need the inverter to be on.

USB ports

There are a number of USB A ports. There are not USB C ports.  The ports are powered whenever the batteries on are on, the invertor is not required.

It is important to note that all the ports on the passenger side share a single 10A fuse and the ports on the drivers side share a second 10A fuse.

Upgrading USB ports

One common upgrade is to replace the USB ports with newer ports with quick charge (QC) or USB-C ports. I haven’t done this yet, but it essentially the steps should be as follows:

  1. Acquire a replacement port.
  2. Turn off batteries
  3. Gently pry off the face cover
  4. Unscrew from behind the usb port (it will be a big plastic nut) and remove the receptacle
  5. Cut the cables from the existing port and splice in a cable to connect to the new port
    1. Many of the new ports take spade connectors, depending on the the length of the existing cable you may be able to add spade connectors directly to the existing cable.
    2. Alternatively you can splice in a new cable - solder and heat shrink tubing would be the best solution, but barrel connectors are also a solution.
  6. Re install the new port the same way you took the old one out.
